It is reported that since 2019, the domestic waste classification work will be launched in all cities at prefecture level and above. By the end of 2020, 46 key cities will basically complete the waste classification and treatment system.
This is a reporter from the Ministry of housing and urban rural development in Shanghai on the 21st of the national classification of municipal solid waste work site meeting. According to reports, 46 key cities have made positive progress in garbage classification, and the supporting facilities for collection, transportation and treatment have been continuously improved. In Shanghai, Xiamen, Shenzhen, Hangzhou, Ningbo, Beijing, Suzhou and other cities, a system for classified collection, transportation and treatment of domestic garbage has been preliminarily established. 46 key cities have carried out 43000 times of garbage classification theme publicity and practice activities, more than 12 million times of household publicity, and more than 700000 volunteers have participated; 27 cities have achieved the full coverage of garbage classification education in schools within their jurisdiction; 33 cities have compiled and printed garbage classification textbooks or knowledge books.
By the end of 2025, garbage classification and treatment system shall be basically built in cities at prefecture level and above. Wang Menghui, Minister of housing and urban rural development, pointed out at the meeting that at present, there are still some problems in promoting waste classification. The ideological understanding needs to be further improved, and some cities still stay at the technical level in their understanding of garbage classification work; the overall coverage of garbage classification is still limited, and the promotion efforts need to be increased; in addition, the short board of facilities still exists, and only a few coastal developed cities have relatively complete garbage classification collection, transportation and treatment facilities.
"At present, 46 key cities have equipped nearly 5000 classified kitchen waste transport vehicles and 1000 classified hazardous waste transport vehicles. In 2019, it is planned to invest 21.3 billion yuan to accelerate the construction of treatment facilities to meet the needs of classified domestic waste treatment." Zhang Lequn said.
The Ministry of housing and urban rural development has carried out household classification publicity of domestic waste in key cities for more than 19 million times, and participated in more than 700000 volunteers.
According to the household survey results of 46 key cities conducted by the research group of "China People's livelihood survey" of the development research center of the State Council in 2018, 38.3% of the households classified domestic waste, an increase of 11.4% over 2017.

According to the classification of "recyclable reuse" and "non recyclable reuse", the garbage can be classified to recycle the recyclable resources in the garbage, reduce waste, and reduce the energy consumption of landfill and incineration.
